Theme: Emerging Technologies

Scope: Naval Mine Warfare, Land Countermine, Humanitarian Demining and UXO Site Remediation, and Technology of Mine/Ordnance Components.

This FIFTH Symposium will emphasize Emerging Enabling Technologies that could lead to improved or enhanced ways of dealing with the "mine problem", broadly defined. We wish to reach beyond the audience usually associated with military conferences so as to inform researchers and investigators of the perceived needs and opportunities for technology and, in turn, to become informed of relevant work that may be being pursued for reasons other than the mine problem application.

U. S. CITIZENS

U. S. citizens, who register as an attendee for the symposium, will be placed on the Naval Postgraduate School access list or the April 21-25, 2002 period. Since entry requires your name on the access list, it will be necessary to register, at east, one week prior to the symposium.

REMINDER TO NON-US PARTICIPANTS

The Naval Postgraduate School is a U.S. Department of Defense facility. Alt hough the Symposium is UNCLASSIFIED, it is necessary to comply with visit egulations that involve the attendees who are not U.S. citizens ontacting their respective embassies in Washington, D.C. who then obtain the appropriate visit clearances. The process must take place 45 days prior to the requested visit.

PARKING

Parking is NOT available at the Naval Postgraduate School. Local transportation details will be included in your meeting egistration confirmation.

ENTRY POINT

All attendees should enter the Naval Postgraduate School at he 10th Street gate on Sloat avenue in Monterey CA, pproximately one block from King Hall auditorium.

INTERNATIONAL VISITORS

Official visits to the Naval Postgraduate School by Foreign National Visitors must be approved through the Navy International Programs Office. The visitor should contact the Defense Attache at their Embassy in Washington and ask that they submit a request to visit the Naval Postgraduate School. Advise the defense attache's office to reference "The Guide to Foreign Attaches Accredited to the Department of the Navy". Procedures for submissions of visit requests to the Naval Postgraduate School for the symposium are included in that manual.

Your request to the Defense Attache's office should indicate "To attend the Fifth International Symposium on Technology and the Mine Problem" as the purpose for the visit. The points of contact (POC's) at the Naval Postgraduate School for the visit request are:

To ensure timely visit request approval, you should submit your visit request to your defense attache's office by March 1, 2002. To verify visit approval by the Naval Postgraduate School, send your inquiry to approximately two weeks after original submission of your visit request to your defense attache's office.
